How to make up a 5.3 & NV3500 5 Speed?

I'm doing a similar swap in my 89 k1500. I'm trying to mate a nv3500 out of a 1992 k1500 to a 2003 5.3. Can I use the clutch from my tbi 350? Also, do any of you guys have a part number for the pilot bearing I will need for this set up using a 2006 4.8 flywheel?

how about the bellhousing? anyone have a part number for that?
i have an NV4500 mated to an old school caddy motor ( BOP bolt pattern) , and if i swap the motor out for an ls1 i'll be needing a new bellhousing .
any idea where i can get it or a gm part number for one?

The 88-98 NV3500's have a one piece aluminum case with an integrated bellhousing and tail shaft. The NV4500's have an iron case with removable bell's and tail shafts. I'm unsure if the 88-98 NV3500's are any different than the 2000+ NV3500's.

how do you open the nv3500 transmission

I am atempting to rebuild my first manual tranny. I am so close to opening (seperating the cases) my tranny. How do you pull it apart? Does it have to be in a particular gear? I can get it about a 1/2" apart but still hung up - the shifter mating socket moves some then stops and that is with the small bolt removed.

I now intend on putting a 5.3L L33 motor in my truck, and Turboing it. I got a great deal on one, and it has a lot of potential. But from what I've read about the NV3500, it can't handle more than about 350hp. I'm looking for something closer to 450. If I buy the parts and put the engine in, and later upgrade to the NV4500, would these parts be the same, or would I be better off just getting the new transmission, and do it all at once? The sooner I get my truck done, the sooner I can start on my T/A.

i have done the exact same *** you do. Just call Brent @ Nook and Tranny, and tell him that you want the same *** he sold Chris from Norway. He know's what you need, and yes this is a cool setup. What i got from him was, a new flywheel, new clutch, bolts, and the hydraulic for this setup.

what actuates the clutch on these NV3500s? Is it cable or hydraulic from the factory?
I like the sounds of this for my stock L33 swap into a 3000lb vehicle. Should handle the 335lb tq just fine.
To reiterate from an earlier post, it seems as though all that is required is:
- Flywheel from a '06 4.8L or 6.0L (Sachs NFW1050).
- old school chevy 12" clutch cover
- extended pilot bearing.
Is there a more complete/definitive swap guide on this yet to make it easy for lazy guys like me?

My research on the NV3500 indicates that the pre-'90 wasn't really an NV3500. The '90-up S-10 4.3 version had the same ratios as the '94-up Ram 1500 5.2L, with a 3.49:1 first. The 'GMFS 4.3 got the 4.0x:1 first.
It seems the FS 1500 with the 5.7 actually used a Getrag, possibly the 290. Whatever, it has like a 3.83:1 first gear. Also integral bellhousing.
I've found conflicting info on 3500 ratios, but I expect and hope that the 0.78:1 fifth was used with the 4:1 first, while the 0.73:1 fifth came with the 3.49:1 first.

Bringing back a super old thread to see if anyone could I form me about how the external slave cylinder works on these motors. I have the engine and trans bolted together, bit there is no way the external slave is going to bolt up. Any ideas guys?

I have done this, it is very easy and cheap to make it work.
To fit a 5.3L to an 'old school' style manual transmission this is what you need:
- Flywheel from a '06 4.8L or 6.0L, they are the same flywheel. It is raised to make up for the .400" difference. you do not need a spacer. The flywheel can be had new in the aftermarket for $60, Sachs NFW1050. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2271&ppt=C0338 This is the same flywheel GM refers to in their LS1 Swap guide.
- This flywheel is drilled for the old school chevy 12" clutch cover and uses 3/8" shoulder bolts to bolt the cover plate on.
- You will need an extended pilot bearing.
Pretty easy and uses common readily available parts, you should be able to put this together for $250.
