Default tech guide needed for replacing a steering wheel

I have a 2000 Firebird that I'm slowly but surely upgrading to a fully loaded WS6.
My Bird has a Ram Air hood, T-tops and I'm about to install a High Rise Hatch
on it. Next I'll need both front and rear v8 bumpers and side skirts to finish
the look. The engine swap will be my last step.

Right now I have to replace the steering wheel with one that has radio
controls on it. I need a guide depicting the process on how to take off the
factory steering wheel "with out radio controls" on a 98-02 Bird and how to
install a new factory steering wheel "with radio controls".

Also I did a look under the hatch panels to see if I had speaker wires there
and I didn't see any that looked obvious. I'm placing some new hatch panels
in that have speakers built into them but wonders how I'm going to get them
working if there is no factory wiring in place already.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, nobody here knows how to replace a factory steering wheel for
one with radio controls without deploying the airbag in your own face?

Shouldn't be that hard but hasn't found a guide online for it yet.

Was hoping that you guys might know how but I've yet to get a
response from anybody, and I'm a new member here.

I own a 2000 Firebird 3.8L, is that why... because it's not an LS1 yet?

Do y'all only respond to LS1-LS7 owners?

That's it. If you don't have a LSx motor, we don't find it worth our time to talk to ya. Seriously. This is kinda off topic for this forum. It belongs in general tech.

Just remove the steering wheel the same as you would any other car. You will also have to swap the clock spring assembly under the steering wheel for one with radio control electrics. THis is a bit of a pain as you will have to snake the wires up through the column. You'll also need a pinout chart for the radio controls pug.

Get a Factory Service Manual.. everything you can think of and question will be in there..

But disconnect the battery before you mess with anything that will deploy the Air Bag...

Steering Wheel Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
J 38720 Steering Wheel Puller Bolts

Remove the nut
Disconnect the horn ground lead

Notice
When removing the steering wheel, use only the specified steering wheel puller. Under no conditions should the end of the steering column shaft be hammered on, as hammering could loosen the plastic injections which maintain steering column rigidity.

Notice
When attaching J 1859-A and J 38720 to the steering wheel, use care to prevent threading J 39720 (bolts) all the way through the steering wheel hub into the SIR coil and damaging the SIR coil.

Use a J 1859-A and a J 38720 in order to remove the steering wheel
Remove the steering wheel horn switch. Refer to Horn Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .

Installation Procedure

Route the SIR coil electrical connector to the steering wheel
Install the steering wheel horn switch.

Important
Align the tooth on the steering wheel with the block tooth on the steering column shaft within one female serration.

Install the steering wheel
Connect the horn ground lead

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the nut Tighten
Tighten the nut to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).
