Pre-75' vehicles? Avoiding smog
Hey fellas,
I know there are ALOT of great cars for swaps, I have been looking at a Fox body, RX-7 and 240sx lately for my LQ4/TH400 combo, that is until I thought of smog laws here in Cali. All cars 1976+ need to be smogged every other year.
So I was wandering if there are any lite (2800-3200lbs) that would accept a LS based engine? Preferably with a strong rearend, and can be found for ~$3K
This is intended to be a drag car, so that function is on the top of the list.

Early Novas and Chevelles (and their Buick-Olds-Pontiac cousins), Vegas and Monzas, early Ford Falcons, Rambler Americans, Studebaker Larks, Datsun 240-260Z cars. Those are a few to start looking for. I believe there may be someone doing conversion parts for the 240-260s. Also seen Porsche 944s and 911s and early BMWs. I've not seen one done yet, but the Mopar Valients, Darts and Dusters are pretty light.

What rear end does a 1961 Rambler 220 Sedan have? A narrowed Dana will fit in them right?
They weigh like 2750lbs, i'm betting i can shave that down a lil more. I found one locally

If you are cutting weight, a narrowed 9" Ford is lighter than a narrowed Dana. 12 bolt Chebbie is lighter still. And if you are narrowing it, anything will fit . That Rambler would be unique too, which is something I always appreciate.
