almost there.. won't start

i'm not getting spark or fuel.
i have a vats bypass wired in.
i'm getting 12v to the coils and injectors.
i have tested continuity on the grounds and they are good.

here is the info i found on this site as to what is in an aftermarket harness.
the wires marked with *'s are wires that are not in my harness.
have i removed something that needs to be there for the car to start?

I would think you need this one "*9 DK/GRN FUEL PUMP RELAY CONTROL".

mind Nov 20, 2008 04:55 PM

the fuel pump is working because it is wired on it's own cirtuit.
maybe the computer needs to see something there, i wouldn't think so, but i dunno.

What do you have your VATS bypass wired to if you don't have #30 VTD fuel enable signal?

mind Nov 20, 2008 05:14 PM

the vats bypass is going to pin 30.

ls1nova71 Nov 20, 2008 05:26 PM

What are you working on? You have an aftermarket wiring harness, but what's the PCM out of? Was just thinking if it's a truck PCM, the bypass won't work. Just a thought.

i trade for this car and it was already half done.

i don't know what this harness is from honestly. all the wires that have been removed were done so by the previous owner. it had all of the connectors chopped off when i got it. i modified all the wires to the correct lengths and put connectors on them. the wire colors are consitant with the 2000 fbody diagram i got off of this site.

the computer is marked stock 99 and the guy told me it was from an fbody.

rah!

A long time ago, I had modified a 5.3 harness for a guy. We got in a hurry and wanted to hear it run, and hadn't finished wiring up the fuel pump relay. We hot wire the fuel pump and went for it, nothing. When i scanned it , there was a code P0230 for fuel pump control. We wired up the fuel pump relay and then it started. now I don't know if that was it or not, but might be worth a shot..let us know...

Not sure if the PCM would shut down fire/fuel for a relay circuit not working.

Hey, also make sure you have power to injectors/coils/pcm DURING CRANKING

Regardless if VATS was disabled or not, you should always have spark, and injectors should fire for a few seconds..then die.

Also, injectors like to stick after sitting for a long time, might try priming the intake with fuel when you get spark going and still have problems.

hmmm, i guess i will move the fuel pump relay trigger from the key to the computer.
i already figured out the hard way the i need to wire up key hot AND the start position on the ignition key:)
