Alternator Help!!!!
I have a reman F-body ls1 alternator. I have big stuff3, so there is no PCM control for the alt. I have a 12v. wire going to the plug on the alt, I tried a light bulb inline, but that didn't work either. Then I got to thinking about it, and the pigtail I got for the alt, I believe came off a truck harness, so that may be the problem. What do I need to do to get the alt to work?
If you are looking at the back of the alt, the wire on the pigtail is the second from the left. Can anyone confirm what pin to energize, and any other tricks to get this thing charging? It is in stock f-body location, which is buried, so physical location on the connector, as opposed to letter position would be helpful.
There is no factory PCM, so that end doesn't matter, I just need to know what pin on the alt. and what do I need to feed it to turn the alt. active.
I was brainstorming this morning, and I have the inline light bulb with the positive 12v going inline with the exciter wire to the alt. The other side of the bulb goes to chassis ground. Is that right? Maybe the light bulb is supposed to go one side from switched 12v source, then the other side to the alt.? Does the alt. provide ground to light the bulb until it is spinning, then that turns the light bulb off?
Or did I have it right, just in the wrong location on the alternator?
