Default I made it to the track

Well today I made it out to Sacramento Raceway for their Test and Tune day. Weather was perfect, low to mide 60s with high pressure. I don't have a basis for comparison on track prep, but on street tires I had a major traction problem. My best time was a 13.68 at 101.6. 60' was 2.159. That was the only time I was able to hook decently at all. Next best time was a 14.24 and 14.60. By rolling into the throttle I could get moving Ok, but would break loose when I got to full throttle. Couple times I felt like a funny car going up in smoke! I honestly felt that like I have had better traction on the street. In 6 passes my 60' were all between the 2.15 and 2.42. At any rate I am not disappointed. To be able to drive to the track and run through the mufflers on my wide white radials and run in the 13s makes me feel pretty good. I have some video, fixed the earlier versions:

And this one got my attention real fast:

Don't feel too bad, I ran a 13.6 at 111mph with a 2.47 60' while spinning the top of second and the top of 3rd. I had to let off each time just to get the car to hook again. I also ran a 14.8 at 109 as well that day but still managed to pick up 39 mph from the 660 to the end of the 1/4. You have a pretty unique ride. It should be fun on the street

Nice times! Very nice ride! Based on the 60' the car can definitely run in the low 13's.

Sacramento is definitely slippery. Have never gone out there on a test n tune, but supposedly they prep a little. Wednesday nights (my time with the old automatic) is pretty bad as theres ZERO prep. Good runs, knock that 60 ft down some and you'll be movin pretty good.

Congrats, Pat that was awesome, nice video's too.
Darn it now I have to spend more money on mine to get into the 13 club. I'll never get it painted now.

I'm jealous. Everyone is hitting the track. Traction always seems to be a problem with LS power.

Good show Pat!!!!!!! I did one of those "gets your attention" runs at LACR last year, then I dropped the rear air down to 14 psi.

I like it.

Thaks everyone for the comments. Oscar, if I remember right we are running similar tires. Did you drop the pressure that low on your wide white radials? I did not go below 25 on mine, maybe lower would have helped. By the way I fixed the videos and got rid of the watermark. They should be better quality now.

Is it just me or were you not doing any burnout. I never tried it without one and I am certainly far from an expert but I was doing a small burnout everytime to clean the tires off an get a little more heat in them.

Pat
Your car is awesome! It was great to see it in action.

One question though: You have modern drive-train, and you didn't go with a restored style paint/chrome job... why not more modern wheel/tire set up?

It is of course your car, but I think a modern style wheel tire package would not only look great on your Studebaker, but gain a lot of performance also.

I have gone back and forth on the burn out. Seems like the burnout makes my tires gooey rather than sticky and they spin worse. I am open to suggestions on that.

I have also considered changing the wheels and tires, and while the car is not restored, it is a traditional custom with chopped top, frenched head and tail lights, lots of shaved stuff. So the chrome smoothies and wide whites do fit with that. I think it would look good with a modern combo too. Thanks for the suggestion.
