Default Ls2 on 97 camaro

Got tired of the Lt1 and decided to put an Ls based motor in the vehicle. I was just wondering if an Ls2 would fit my 1997 F Body Camaro. I know an Ls1 fits for sure, but I have doubts about the Ls2. Thanks.

It will. Same measurements. Just get the fbody 98-up accessories and it will slide right in!

The Wiring isn't that hard either..a little different from an LS1, but it can be done. What year LS2 you looking at, there is a difference in the Crank Reluctors..

I don't know what Crank Reluctors are but I sure want to find out. Im looking at getting an ls2 off of a gto or corvette. As far as the year I dont know yet but a little information on those reluctors would help me out a little bit more and get that problem out of the way. I thought about getting the painless wiring from Jegs if I dont get a motor with a wiring harness. I also know that I have to get a fuel pump, 98 up dashboard, ecm, and the motor mounts. Is this it or is there is more that I dont know about? I already have a t56 off of a 98 trans am but I was also wondering if this transmission will need to be modified to fit the ls2 or not. I was also wondering if the clutch and the flywheel are different because I have a steel billet slp flywheel for an ls1. Just wondering if this flywheel will fit the ls2. Thanks for the help.

The T56 will work..I would try to get a LS1 K-Member, and you will need a LS1 Steering Rack too.

As far as stuff fitting in the Car and mounting it, check out my Thread for info..

I read in your thread that if you are changing to an ls1 t56, that you have to change the clutch hydraulics. Does this mean the master cylinder and the slave cylinder or just the slave cylinder cause my camaro was automatic before and I switched it to standard so I have a new slave cylinder installed. Also, does the k member of the ls1 bolt on directly to your lt1 body or did you have to modify it? Thanks.

I didn't use an LS1 K-Member, but it will bolt directly on. If you can get one with the Brakes, that is a good upgrade too.

I used all LS1 Hydraulics, I'm not sure about the LT1 Master, but the Line is different, so I would swap to the LS1 Master, it comes with the proper Line as well. The LT1 and LS1 Hydraulics are totally different.
