Designing a Fuel System
I'm dropping a 5.3 into a 78 CJ7. The stock engine had a fuel pump mounted on the block so there was no in tank fuel pump. Now I'm looking at designing a fuel system that will work well with the 5.3 but remain external. I've read that the Walbro pump is the one to go with, but I don't know exactly which one (part number) is the best. Also, where would be the best place to mount it. Closer to the engine or fuel tank? Also, for fuel line, is bent tubing better or steel braided hose? And what diameter should I use?
thank you for your responses, I've searched quite a bit, but I havent been able to find all the answers to my questions.

I, like many others, sumped my fuel tank. Then I ordered up a bunch of Summit AN fittings, 20 micron prefilter, used braided 3/8" hose, the Walbro 255 fuel pump, corvette filter with internal regulator.
Pump like this, you can get then from LS1tech vendors also, maybe cheaper too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...1%7C240%3A1318
I'm in Lemon Grove if you want to put eyes on a typical setup.

With the stock 5.3 out of a 99 Silverado, does the intake fuel rails have a stock regulator? If not, which one is the one I should use. Also does the 99 vortec 5.3 need a return fuel line?
