98 coolant temp sensor to autometer gauge help!!! does anyone know what resistor to use? for a little more accurate reading...
i am getting a 20 degree lower reading on my autometer gauge than my scan tool. i have not ohmed it out....i am looking for an easy way out

i had the autometer sensor in the pass head, but it read 40 degrees hotter than the pcm sensor. i was just hoping the autometer and factory sensor would be a little closer. and i need the factory sensor for the pcm

Maybe your sensor is bad. My friends autometer sensor reads the same temp on his autometer gauge as the PCM sensor. I couldn't tell you what my PCM sensor read, but the autometer gauge was never more than 195-200 in the middle of summer.
is there any teflon tape or sealant on the autometer sender cause it will cause the reading to be off some. The brass should seal up on its own if its tight and won't cause ground path resistance like sealant can
use a multi-meter to check for the resistance between the sensor body (where the wrench goes) and a good ground, if there is much resistance that will be the difference in your gauge
