Differences in versions of 4L60E's
In my 1991 S10 I'm using a 1999 V6 S10 Trans and a standard LS Flexplate with a 700R4 Convertor(smaller diameter and PWM elimated), no issues, cleared properly. Had 1/4" from the Flexplate to the Pads with Convertor fully seated. Been driving fine for a while now.
A 1998-02 2wd Truck Trans will work with a F-body, all you have to do is swap the Linkage Arm and the Tail Shaft Housing if your Torque Arm still bolts to it.
Your best bet would be a 2wd 1998-02 Truck.
I have 2 of them cores myself..one a friend gave me when I did a M6 swap into his truck, and the other is my old Auto from my Camaro, it has all kinds of good hard parts in it(Beast Sunshell, Super Servo..etc..), the Clutches/Band are gone. I'm combining the two and building a badass pulling Tranny for my Truck. My Camaro one has a Corvette Valve Body..it
Hi I am swapping a 5.3 into my t/a. It's from a 2wd 04 Silverado and I got the 4l60e with it.... I want to use the 04 trans to have built to handle more power while still being able to drive my car, what will I need to make it work? My torque arm is already relocated so that is not a problem.... Thanks!

but my experience has been its not IF but when the 4l60 will die. IMO you can save a lot of hassle by sellign that thing off to someone who needs a direct replacement. then take that money to the pick n pull and grab the first 80e you find '97 or later that isnt full of busted metal in the pan. grab the slip yoke too.
the overall length is the same between the 80 and the 60, so swap the yoke, move the crossmember back, do some very simple repinning and a segment swap in the computer and never look back
When that change to place, the 4L60E transmission was changed to the multi-piece design and the distance from the face of the bellhousing to the trans mount increase by about an inch (the mount attachement location was moved to the extension housing like it is on your transmission. In order to address the issue you are having, you'll need to modify the crossmember you have (i.e. make a rear cantilever bracket for it), or use a transmission crossmember specifically designed to pick-up the mount on the later style multi-piece truck 4L60E trans mount with the engine being mounted in the fore/aft position dictated by using the stock LS1 K-member and engine mounting brackets (I'm assuming you are using the stock mounting brackets). The Hooker Blackheart 1993-97 F-body LS swap transmission crossmember I've posted a picture of below is specifically designed to do that and there is a separate torque arm divorcing bracket that is also available to use with it. The crossmember can be used to install about 4 or 5 different transmissions and the 4L60E transmission requires a specific cantilever bracket that is visible in the images.
