Clutch & Flywheel differences??
Clutch & Flywheel differences?? I've researched this forum, as well as the Transmission fourm and my fingers are raw from searching, so I thought it was time to ask!
What is the difference between a Camaro and Corvette Flywheel & Clutch? I noticed when buying aftermarket parts they list different part numbers for say a 98-02 Camaro and 97-04 Corvette.
The reason that I am asking, is that I am in the process of installing a '04 C5 Corvette LS1 in my '69 Camaro and I need a clutch and Flywheel setup.. I have a friend that has a new Spec aluminum flywheel and Stage 3 Clutch for a 98-02 F-Body Camaro that I can buy and I was wondering if that would work on my '04 C5 LS1.. I plan on installing in my TKO-500 w/ tremec hydraulic clutch kit and Lakewood scatter sheid.. I do know the TKO has the same 26 spline count as the Spec F-Body clutch and I will have to use a long pilot bushing.. Apprecaite any info.. Thanks, Jason.

I'm also wondering what is different between the 98~04 flywheel and the LS2/3 flywheel. The aftermarket flywheels are always split up between those two groups.

Not sure about all the differences, but the guy from SPEC answered my question.. The 98-02 F-Body flywheel and clutch will work just fine on my '04 C5.. So, I'm guessing they are the same parts with different part numbers??
If you are replacing the clutch and flywheel and want to stick with a stock like set up, then get the LS7 stuff. More surface area on the flywheel and still an easy pedal feel. I put the LS7 stuff on an LS2 motor and backed it with a TKO. I think everything including the pilot bearing was around 4 bills from my local chevy dealer.
