Default LSX Miata Build

Well I am in the process for shopping for an LS series engine to put into my miata. I know many people have done it. I have a great kit but now need power. I wanted to ask more on the lines of reliability. An LS2 is likely out of my budget and would be good to be sure so it is either a 200 - 2002 camaro LS1 or perhaps LS1 from the GTO or lastly an LS6 all would be with t56 trans. At first I thought the LS6 would be the best choice but it is 55 pounds heavier than each of the others. IN a miata that is going to be a track car I am not overly interested in putting in a heavy motor despite the 55 HP it would give.

Can anyone speak though to the reliability of these? Is say the ls1 bullet prove cheaper compared to the LS6? If the 1 and 6 are about the same price which is the better choice and why?

I apologize if this is a common question as I did do a search and looked for over an hour but couldn't find any answers.

Thanks much.

Same answer as I made on M.net. LS6 is the best choice & it does not weigh 55lbs more than an LS1. LS6 & T56 for the win.

Good morning,

Well I was out looking at the following link http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/_r...ineQRC2008.pdf and they indcate the LS6 weighs 465lbs and the LS1 is 409lbs. 55lbs is alot of extra weigh from my perspective. Perhaps the information is incorrect? Not sure. Just trying to pull the trigger and don't know that much about these monsters.

The LS6 is shown for the Z06 Vette. The added weight must be related to the plate connecting the torque tube to the engine. Vettes have a rear mounted transmission & a torque tube running to the engine. Could also be that the Vette LS6 weight includes accessories, like alternator, power steering, AC & the LS1 weight doesn't? The engine itself LS6 compared to an LS1 cannot weigh 55lbs differently. The differences are cam specs, block modifications, head specs, intake specs, piston specs, rod bolts & maybe a few other insignificant changes. Both the LS1 & LS6 have aluminum block, heads, oil pan. Cam, oil pump, crank, timing set, lifters, push rods, valves, springs can't weigh differently enough to add up to 55lbs. Call a crate engine seller & ask why the 55lb difference. I don't see it & I have an LS6 short block (block, crank, rods, piston, rod bolts).
