manifold ??? 
I have decided to modify my manifolds by cutting off the stock flanges and welding some aftermarket bolt on reducers. The reason im doing this is because i dont want to purchase an aftermarket y pipe$$.I went to one muffler shop and he told me he could not weld them because the reducers and manifolds are of different material. Somenone else told me it does not matter that I can weld the after market collector and flanges to the manifold. The manifolds are from a 98 camaro and the collectors are jegs bolt on reducers. Is it possible to weld the both together ???

Welding them would be no problem. Muffler mack must be a hack welder if that's what he told you. More than likely, he just didn't want to do it.
However, I just cut off the mating flanges from the y pipe and welded my new pipe right up to the flanges.
