Default Coolant temp gauge 240sx

i have a 97 240sx with an 05 gto ls2 and im trying to keep the factory coolant temp gauge in the nissan cluster working. Has anyone done this yet?

The problem is the thread pitch.. on the nissan sender its 12 x 1.25 and the ls2 head its 12 x 1.5. Ive looked for adapters at a few autoparts stores, machine shop, autometer, and home depot with no success. Most of the swaps ive seen just run an aftermarket temp gauge. ill probably join at some point but it would be nice to have the nissan guy working too. thanks

If you are that close it seems you could drill out the head and helicoil it to the new pitch.

The temp sensor in the LS heads is not a tapered pitch, so sealing shouldn't be an issue.

Worst case you can drill out the brass block heater plug and put the sender there.

both good points. but the head is on the engine.. in the car lol so im trying to avoid drilling into it at this point. trying to find a stupid adapter is proving pretty tough, especially since its just a thread pitch change. im probably going to end up making an adapter somehow

Dude, your probably better off just tapping into the water pump or something. I plan on tapping into the waterpump for my aftermarket temp sensor, because I was having the same issue finding an adapter for the passengerside head.

The stock 240 gauge is worthless. An H and a C won't tell you much. If the motor is already in the car you don't have too many options. I put my aftermarket one where the lighter used to be. The temp sender is in the passenger side head. If you must keep the stock gauge you could always put it in one of those radiator hose adapter.

Just thread it in and use some sealant. But I would do it on pass side head at rear where that plug is cuz you are gonna need the GM sender for your o2 sensors to function properly. I did it very simple
