Default L92 Partial VIN or Casting Date

Is there anyway to tell if an L92 is a 2007 or 2008? I bought what was supposed to be a 2008 with 12K miles. It sure looks like it has more miles than that on it. Is there a partial VIN that would reveal the year or a casting date somewhere on it?

There are a couple of date codes on the block. One is the casting year/day. On the LH front cylinder outer wall towards the front. Like 73083. 2007, 308th day, not sure what the 5th digit is. Thought it was shift, which is common in foundries, but have seen 4's and 5's there too.

The other is the machining day, a 10 digit number engraved on a downward facing face of the block just around the corner from the casting number.

Like 8003133007: 2008, 3rd day, sequential number 133007.

Your engine may be an MY08, but still have '07 casting/machining dates.

Hope this helps ya!
