Default starter and altenator questions

Hi, I got a 06 LQ4 out of truck at a local salvage yard. As most people know they dont come with the starter and altenator. I was wondering if the starters and altenators off the earlier motors will work? Also wanting to know if anybody knows where I can find these at? I priced them at autozone and the starter is 200 and I havent priced the altenator yet. Really didnt want to give that much.

thanks
josh

Why didn't you buy them from the yard? The last time I bought an LS starter from them it was $35 if it has the normal truck bracket on it, you can use an (around a 98)S10 4.3 alternator, it's smaller in diameter but it bolts on and works, Its nice for the s10 swaps to give a little extra hood clearance

there was another post about starters, and bolt lengths-i thought the GM book said they were 2 diff lengths, but i ck'ed mine and both bolts were the same length, i think both starters were off 6.0's
if you get a used one, take it apart and grease it real good, makes a huge diff

Which serpentine assembly are you going to use? If you're going to go with Fbody accessories, you will need to drill and tap a hole in the block for the alternator bracket. There is a boss in the block down there on the driver side but no hole. You'll need an m10x1.5 tap. You only use the outer two holes on the bracket, the center hole isn't used.

That's what I did with mine, it was easy as pie.

I tried to buy the starter and altenator but they,ve done sold both and I didnt know if any others would work. I will probably go with the fbody altenator bracket. So any LSX starter will work?
