It's not rocket science, just take a carbide burr and oblong the hole.

Okay so let me get this right. I'm a noob when is comes to finding out what fits and not when mounthing the LS engine to the TH400. This is what i have so fare, a LS1 with stock flex plate and a TH400 with the stock torque converter.
So if i just buy this kit everything is gonna bolt up and work and I'll need nothing extra in addition I'll be able to use the stock toque converter? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/LS1-En...ign=GoogleBase

I also hear of a crank spacer, will i need that?

That comes with the spacer and bolts. ...but for $229???!!!

I spent around $70 with GMPP (see my earlier post), used a $20 JYD flywheel for the engine and a carbide bit equipped die grinder to adjust the holes outward. It's a mod that has been done a ton of times and works very well. You only elongate the holes a few mm and I used my torque converter as a template so I knew when to stop. MAYBE took 20 minutes but I have a very well prepared home shop. I'm not racing and my engine is stock so I don't need an SFI approved flywheel and won't spend the $ for one - until it is necessary.

I have seen a few early truck engines with a crank snout .400 longer (sticks out from the back of the block) while the normal Gen III cranks are flush with the rear seal. Those engines don't need this adapter or bolts and are easy to spot with the engine away from the transmission.
I am very pleased I found this post. I was just about to spend $200 for the Hughes set up and then I see that GM already has solution for this problem for about $70.
I am wondering if this adapter ring probably comes from the factory on the LQ4s in trucks equipped with the 4l80 trans? If so, they could be had at salvage yards when buying a flywheel maybe?

I just found a really sweet deal and an easy solution to older trannies with the LS motors.

How about a $50 solution to the problem that comes with flywheel, spacer and bolts all new from GM?

Yes it will. The only thing you have to do is lightly elongate the torque converter bolt holes 1 to 2 mm with a die grinder. Apparently, many savvy people have been doing this for years.

wow thats crazy lol the flexplate with snout adapter and bolts is cheaper than just the snout adapter and bolts!

All the holes were the right size with my TCI converter. Bolted right in with ZERO mods. Installed the TH400 with no probs at all!!

Hughes stuff is total junk. I had a flexplate from them that rubbed the bellhousing it was so far out. .090 run out.

Any type of performance needs a good flexplate. You can hurt yourself when one comes appart.

The TCI stuff is very very nice. I used one with my ford c4 to lsx it was very easy.

Whynnot just buy a TCI flex plate? It comes with the adapter and all the bolts plus it meets SFI spec. Mine bolted up great!

well, if you're just putting in a stock LS1, I guess it would depend on what you want to spend. If you're pushing 700HP like above...then heck yes I'd go with the SFI plate.

you know what really really sux?? Is when you buy a TCI TH400......and then when you go looking for something in your shed....and trip over a TH400 you forgot you had!!!!
