Default Inline fuel pumps good for DD?

Bosch 044 or 910 -----Anybody using one of these as an external in-line pump to power an LS1? The engine will be almost entirely stock.

I was shocked to see that my '85 RX7 GSl-SE uses an external inline pump from the factory. For some reason I just assumed it was going to be an intank pump since it was factory EFI. Really puts a wrinkle in my LS1 plans because now I have to make tough decisions for the fuel system.

Replace the stock pump with a Bosch 044?

(Please don't suggest a different brand. It's going to be Bosch because they're super quiet and reliable. This will be a 100% street car and DD for several months out of the year so reliability is most important.)

Or try to use a Bosch 044 in tandem with the stock pump? I don't know if I have room to do so but it might be the best option.

The stock pump/system is good for about 45psi. The LS1 needs ~58psi under all conditions. The Bosch 044 is good for ~72psi, but I would hate to strain it having it trying to pull fuel and push fuel at the same time. I'll be using the Corvette filter/FPR combo up near the engine.

What do you guys think?

I'm running a Bosch inline pump. Haven't had any dips in pressure running at 58 lbs with my corvette FPR filter. Stock Porsche pump. Don't limit yourself to only bosch, there are other quiet inline pumps.

044 is designed to be an inline pump.

Do you know if the pump you're running is similar to the Bosch 044 or the 910?

The 044 is what I'm leaning towards. From what I can tell it should be okay as a standalone pump.

If you call LA Porsche dismantlers @ 818-767-7243 and ask for a 964/993 FP it's only 100 dollars, it's inline, it's quiet, and it's been dynamite for my Head/cam 346. I'm going to F/I this winter (next month ) and i'll just add an additional one. Pulls little current too.

No, i don't know if it's similar to the 044 or the 910, it could even be one of those. From memory when i installed it 3 years ago it was an alloy cylinder about 2.5'' diameter 4'' long, inlet and outlet on opposite ends, 2 nuts like a starter solenoid for + and ground.

The 044 pump is OEM for some turbo Porsche but i'm don't recall which one. I think the trick to keeping an inline reliable is making sure it's fed properly. I ended up sumping my tank to make sure my 044 didn't have to work too hard to pull fuel. I never liked the idea of running two pumps, one to help supply fuel to the second, too much to go wrong in my book. I'd try and sump your tank but i know that's not always an option. You can also try and research external swirl pots, but once again that just adds coplication to the setup. Also, the 044 isn't a quiet as you think, I can't hear it over my exhaust like some external pumps but you definetely know when it's on before the car starts. Good luck, also, don't forget to look at your line sizes if you are keeping any existing fuel lines, make sure they are big enough.
