Default LT1 T56 to LS1

Is there any problems when bolting a T56 off and LT1 to an LS1. I'm doing the swap in my 96 Z28 and have the original T56 trans that needs to be rebuilt. I had always thought that it bolted right up but didn't use one of the holes and you were good to go. I recently have heard about a hydraulic issue, any truth to that?

You need to replace lots of parts, including the front cover and the input shaft, most people just sell the LT1 version and buy a LS version.

you dont need to replace a lot of parts, just the bellhousing front cover and input shaft
that it, even people with no trans experience can do this quite easily
no reason to spend 1k+ on a trans you already have

As stated before, no need for a lot of parts. I did this conversion last week on my LT1 T56. I purchased a midplate/front cover, input shaft with bearing and race. I had the conversion completed within 20 minuets. I had never been into a T56 trans before. It was very simple. The key is keeping the proper preload on the bearing. This is an easy measurment and acheived with shims under the bearing race.

where are you guys sourcing the parts? I would do this if I could do it for 400 or less.
Thanks for the info.

Your logic is backwards

LT and LS T56 trannys are worth roughly the same. Sell the LT and buy a LS

Why spend an extra $350 to convert one way or another

My reason for thinking of converting it is because I know the condition of mine. If I buy an ls1 t56 I run the risk of getting one that is in worse shape than the one I currently have.

So true! Same in my case. I had a NOS (new) LT1 T56. This is why I chose to do the conversion. I don't like the risk of purchasing a junk LS T56.
