Default Good deal on a 6.0L?

Hey everyone, I'm going to be swapping and LS of some sort into a `93 mustang and found 2 local motors on craigslist. The first one is an `03 5.3L with 59K miles and comes complete for $1000. The other is a 2000 6.0L with 102K miles and also comes complete for $995 (same seller). I would rather have more cubic inches to start with but is there anything I should be aware of with a 2000 model year 6.0L? I've heard that getting a torque converter to bolt up can be an issue with the longer crank. Is the 5.3L even a good deal? Thank you to anyone who replies.

Neither of those IMO are great deals. For $1000 and a 5.3, I would be looking for a '05 and up L33 aluminum block and 799 heads 5.3 H.O. with mileage around 60K. I personally prefer '02 and up 6.0's and have found quite a few escalade 6.0's with lower mileage at that price.

the early 6.0s will only work with a 4l80e. the price for the 5.3 is about twice what it should be. you can find 5.3s all day long for $500. check lkqcorp for a local location

The 6.0 has iron heads, long crank, and a lot of miles. I would pass on that deal.

might check car-part.com too. it'll search by nearest, and they have a lot of engines listed usually. could look into delivery or shipping too, i asked my guy at the junkyard, and they had a delivery service for like $20 for a 150 mile round trip. delivered to my door. i couldn't have taken time off work and driven (lost wages + gas) for even twice that.

They would be good deals if they had transmissions all the accessories, harness and PCMs. How complete are they?

They both say that they come complete with all accessories, pcm, harness but no transmission. They both sounded a little high on the price but I figured I would ask first just in case.

yeah, check car-part.com. You should be able to get a newer 60-70k mile 6.0 with the aluminum heads & shorter crank for a grand or less.

I'm new to the idea of dropping an LSX into a non LSX vehicle, so forgive me for a potentially redundant question.

What motors from what year trucks are the ones we'd want?

Also, what do you guys think about stuffing the 8.1 from an Avalanche into something?

Where are you located? Hit up your local salvage yards. I know stuff is regional but the last one I purchased was a 2000 5.3 three months ago and cost $550 with all accessories, wiring and PCM. My engine had 103K on the clock but I'm not worried about that, I've seen them driven hard and 300K without issue. The machine shop I use builds them for local racers all the time and rarely sees one that was worn out.

I know, that's why I asked it as two separate questions. Has anyone tried to stuff one in an S10 or will the truck simply stand on it's front tires.

Seriously though, I'm thinking I'd like to put a 5.3 with an LS1/6 intake in my 96 S10 SS, but I'm not sure what the best years to use are.

Also, didn't the later year F-Bodies have an LS6 intake with an EGR port? (Starting in 00 or 01, right?)

It's been a while since I've followed the LSX stuff. I sold my last LS1 (Heads and cam 99 SS) way back in 2002-2003.
