I suppose it depends how you want to do the conversion, will you stay with the chevelle frame and suspension or did you want to convert that some how into the C5 drivetrain/semi-transaxle/irs ?
The motor with a f-body trans should bolt in without many problems(and a little fabrication), I would get an f-body PCM and speartech harness along with an F-body throttlebody. That would not be that bad of a project.... you are going around alot of issues, vette transmission and the drive-by-wire system.
With that said, a pro-touring style chevelle with the complete vette underpinnings would kick total ***.

Ken, if your Chevelle has small block chevy motor mounts (or you can swap those into it), you can pick up a set of BRP LS1-SBC conversion mounts. These bolt to the LS1 and adapt them to fit factory SBC engine mounts. Give Phil at BRP a call, they just built an A-body Chevelle and can help you with your LS1 swap too.

1967 Chevelle with LS1
I've had a 1999 LS1 and a 4L60E in my 1967 Chevelle convertible since August of 1999. This was before anyone made kit parts so I built my own everything. Best swap I've ever done.
I tried to upload pictures but the file size limit is to small.

I am in the early stages of doing a LS1 swap into my 67 chevelle. I have the motor mount plates for the block made up. The big block thats in the car now is coming out in the next week or two. Im thinking that a truck pan will be needed as well as the corvett accessary set up. My plan is to do a twin turbo set up on the car. I will need to move the radiator back into the engine bay to make room for the intercooler. So with any luck the motor mount set up will move the engine back enough to allow for this. Its real tuff to give up the big block in the car ! But in the spirt of making the car more streetable, its time to make the jump. That being said, Im looking forward to spooling up them turbos, and letting them rip.
One last thing early thanks to Tom over at Speed Inc. Tom you the man. First mine then the 69 ! (you know what im talking bout)

Street and performance makes a mount that bolts to the ls1 block then get a new set of small block mounts for the chevelle. I have a 72 chevelle and I moved the mounts on the frame back around two inches so that the F-body alt. would clear my steering gear box. I first started with a truck pan and built my own motor mounts but I didnt take out any of the front of the pan. I did notch out the pass front cornrer to clear the tie rod end when turning but the pan was too tall and My 4L60E hit too high on the trans tunnel. S&P made me a set on headers for the car they are mid length. S&P F-Body modified oil pan & pickup was the best way to go for me. If you need more parts try SMC performance Shaun valvegod@aol.com
