Default Oil level

I had to have the oil pan modified to fit in my truck. There was not enough ground clearance after having the IFS front end installed. The "chunk" removed amounted to 1 3/4 quarts. This would leave me with a 4 1/4 quart system...which I would probably cheat a little and overfill to 4 1/2. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't this be too low to be racing with...5500 to 6000 rpm shift points??

I wouldn't think it would be a prob for drag racing.

In heads up drag racing that requires a wet sump oiling system, this is how I determine how much oil to run...
I fill the vehicle with enough oil that I comfortable with. Let's say it's a 7 qt system...I'll fill it with around 6 qts to start with.
I'll make a pass, and monitor the oil pressure.
Next, I'll drain 1/2 qt, then make another pass.
When you get the oil level too low, you'll lose oil presssure at the big end of the track. To be safe, you can add 1/2 back to the engine when you get that point.
When I ran in NMCA Mean Street, I found that I could safely run 4.5 qts in a 7.5 qt pan.
You should be fine with 4.5 qts, but keep an eye on the oil pressure at the track and you'll know for sure.
