in charge hello ls1tech fans. i wonder who has replaced and upgraded the factory alternator on a lm7/5.3(145 amp)? with my appl. im running dual electric fans for the radiator(pullers), dual fans for the a/c condensor(pushers), pcm, nice radio system(2-12 in. woofers with 2-amps), electric fuel pump, with a dual battery setup on my '87 c10. a budddy told me that with all those accessories, the alternator will be at its charging max. i want to purchase a power master 48237 (255 amp) alternator for charging duties. also i ve read that with a bigger alternator its better & more effiecient for the engine. any suggestions.
Why are you running four fans? If the AC condenser is in front of the radiator like a traditional setup, the pulling fans will be plenty.

If you deleted the extra fans and the extra battery you would probably have enough alternator. A run down battery can draw quite a bit of charge current.
Fuel injected motors take a lot of juice to run. The O2 sensor heaters and FI stuff have some pretty big fuses on them. ABS brakes do too.
But your truck doesn't seem more demanding than the wife's minivan. All the stuff above plus heated seats, power doors, nav, stereo with subwoofer, TV-DVD, 115 volt outlets. Each O2 sensor has a 25 amp fuse. I think it's main fuse is only 140 amp.
Not sure how you would tell for sure though. I would guess hook a voltmeter up in the dash somewhere then turn everything on. If it can't maintain 14+ volts than maybe you have a problem. Wiring can make a difference in that too.
