Default msd 6010 or 6012

I have an aluminum 5.7 block and a crankshaft out of an LQ4 truck 6.0. I plan to build a carbed enginge using these parts. My question is can i use the truck crank? would it be an advantage to find a 24 tooth wheel ls crank? Which MSD box do i need?

The 6010 is for the 24x reluctor and the 6012 is for the 58x reluctor. Typically, the 97-05 motors were 24...and later than that are 58. I think your block needs to have the correct location for the crank sensor. The 24x were in the rear of the block and the 58x were in the timing cover.

The crank sensors were all behind the starter, in the side of the block. The cam sensor is what moved to the timing cover.

The color of the crank and cam connectors will tell you whether it is a 24x or 58x. do a quick search since I don't remember which is which.

The two boxes perform identically, so just get the one that matches the sensors on your motor.

I'm not sure what it would take to make a 58X crank work with a 24X motor. My guess is you would probably need a pretty good reason to make it worth while.

thanks guys. I was under the impression that the LQ4s were all 58X. The crank is probably 99-04.
