is this the same as the champ pan. I thought that champ made them for autokraft. Champ is a pan manufaturer so I bought mine from them.

130fe: if you go to the last page of Sommers' products there is a steel pan kit listed. He originally listed the pan separate from the pickup and adapter but due to my confusion on prices he wrapped it all up into a kit (pan, pickup, adapter) for $400. The discount we would get is the same kit with the stamped steel pan for $355+s/h. The aluminum one is also available to us for $580. Apparently all of these companies get the pans from the producer so the pan from Champs should be exactly the same as from Autokraft and Sommers.

Is the aluminum pan cast? Does it still have the trap doors and what is the weight savings?

Thanks for putting this together.

The aluminum pan is welded not stamped. As for weight savings I have no idea what the difference between the weight of the aluminum and steel pans. Given that the steel one is stamped I cant imagine it would weigh much to begin with. Both pans have the 4 corner baffles and the other bells and whistles just one is made of steel and the other aluminum.

Ok I just got a PM from Sommers Racing and the cupon is working properly now. Remember, the coupon code is "LS1TECH" and it expires at the end of the day on March 31, 2010. Pans are on order and will take approximately 2 weeks before Sommers gets them, then they will be shipped to us.

I have met the guy that builds the autokraft pans here in Eau Claire, WI and his works is awesome. He is a really stand up guy and takes pride in his work. Each pan to my is hand made. I would go with the autokraft pan any day of the week.

Ordered the Steel pan kit tonight. The total after the discount with $17.50 for shipping was $372.61 in case anyone is wondering. Still seems like a pretty decent deal.

Default Autokraft Pan Discount

Is there any update on the Autokraft discount? I called Kurt at Autokraft on Thursday and he has me on the list for a pan when he gets them in (sometime this week). If there's a discount available I'm game.

The discount rate is through Sommers Racing not Autokraft. Search the name and you will find the speed shop. Enter coupon code "LS1TECH" and you will get the pan at a discount rate.

Just updating people that I get a PM from Sommers racing that my pan is shipping tomorrow (3/12) from FL and should be at my door shortly.

There is still time for others to purchase these pans at the discounted rate, offer expires at the end of this month.

Got my pan, pickup tube and oil filter adapter in today. Everything looks great. Anybody know if there is a need to run a crank scraper with this pan?

Got mine today too. Lookin really good. This thing weighs 16lbs though lol. I was really surprised at the weight compared to typical SBC pans but am very happy with the end product.

CrimeSScene: Did you get a block off plate for the filter adapter? I don't know what to do with those two holes sticking out the side lol

Those two holes go to that piece that needs to be tapped for your oil pressure sending unit. I'm not sure what that piece is called. Here's the first pic I could find in the '67 build thread.

Oh I get it! Thanks for the info. crimeSScene!

millwrite1999: I am unsure what car is X body. The only 2 body letters I am familiar with is G and F. You might want to call champ pans, Autokraft or Sommers Racing. Since they all sell the pan they may know if it'll fit your car. Funny thing is that my pan came with Sommers Racing stickers on the sides and a Champ Pans sticker in the box lol.

Not yet. Guess I'm gonna have to make a few calls. Almost time to start assembling my engine.
