what color gray to refinish the engine bolts?? Hey guys,
I'm detailing my engine for a factory look and was wondering what you are doing to re-finish the engine bolts?
Mine are dingy or rusted - they were a light gray color originally and I would like to re-paint them close to factory specs.....I can't find a spray paint that is a close enough match
suggestions??

Have them GLASS BEADED. I just asked one of the local machine shops on tanking my timing cover, valley pan and valve covers. He said glass beading them will make them look brand new. He told me $ 20-25.00 Should be able to do the bolts too.

The bolts are a different story, they are coated steel with some sort of paint or coating. I wouldn't even mind buying all new bots, it's just trying to chase down the exact ones would be a problem.
I may just paint them black and call it a day.

Do powdercoatings come in CLEAR? What about a semi gloss clear or flat clear? I am temped to have them clear powder coated (after glassbeading) if they have it. AS CAST looks with no weathering would be great.

Yes, you there are several different levels of gloss you can get for clear. BUT... powder will chip off the bolts where the wrench bites into it and then it will need a touch up.
We have a cast blast powder that is very thin and looks like cast alum. When the bolts are blasted and coated very thin it should hold up thru a install. Just have to use care.

There are two link on the 7th post. That is if you want to buy new factory bolts.
can't help you there, but I know at work we've got zinc spray. . . Won't be back until Friday so I can't help you any sooner other than ask around at auto parts stores...
Call shop that chrome plates stuff, they might do zinc and cadmium plating too. If that shop dont do it, ask if they know of one that does or just keep calling around.
If you have a bunch of bolts that need to be done, they will probly be able to acid dip them to clean them up and then re-plate them.
