Hurst Hairy project, need thoughts Hello, I am new to this forum, but would like your guy's opinion on an idea I had for what to do with my 1966 Oldsmobile. The original Hurst Hairy was a 66 Olds that was powered by two toronado V8's. I think it would be awesome to create a new, modern interpretation of this car. My idea is to stick two ls7's in, each fitted with the carburetor intake, and capable of between 500-650 hp. The front engine would most likely have to be in the transverse position. Heres my question, is there a manual fwd transmission that can stand up to this kind of power? Also, would it be better to mount the rear engine transverse as well, or go with a transaxle. I would like to be able to have it be a stick shift, but can settle a sequential paddle shift if necessary. Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
Strongest FWD manual trans GM has is the G6 6 speed. Fiero guys love em, but they still snap easily at the power level you're talking
A Porsche transaxle can handle a good bit of abuse, but is longitudinal and would push the engine father forward. not sure if it will still fit your chassis
You may have to have a pair of custom trannys built. Expect some serious investment in any direction you take, just getting a pair of LS7s in one vehicle and to not rip it apart

might have to consider less power. Possibly look at the fwd V8 cars (monte SS, GP GXP, Imp SS) drivetrains. Having two 300-400hp engines is still a good bit of power, and i imagine alot cheaper than going the LS7 route
