Default MSD 6012 cam sensor fail

6.0 ly6 with vvt removed. i am using the stock cover. on the msd graphview i am getting a cam sensor failure error, but the car seems to run fine. i called msd and they said sometimes the A and C wires need to be switched, so i pulled the orange wire and switched it with the brown/white striped wire. no change, i still get "cam snr fail". i even unplugged the cam sensor and i got the error. i didnt notice a change in the way the engine ran either.

for the ly6 cam sensor, what are the three wires starting from the top? i need to know where 5v and sensor signal are, so i can make sure it is correctly hooked up.

Look closely on the connector body and youll see the pin assignments

A brn/wht 5v/signal
B pnk/blk low ref
C red 12v

Use a multimeter to see if you're getting the proper voltage at each terminal with the IGN on. If those check out, do a continuity test from B to ground or the low ref pin on the box

ok. which pins on the cam sensor are 5v, ground and signal wire?

i don't have my alternator hooked up and im atabout 11.8 volts. could this be a source of the sensor problem?

Put the pins back in the stock location on the cam connector, ABC

Low voltage may be the culprit, but you should see if anything is obvious by testing the voltage on the terminals just by the battery

thats the problem, the connector that came with the engine is reversed CBA (starting from the left or bottom) from the one that came with the msd box which is ABC (starting from the left or bottom).

is that the way the pins are set up or is it the opposite?

im having that same problem. was it hard for your car to start with it saying cam sensor failure? when u change A and C around on the plug did it stop saying cam sensor failure and crank up easier?
