Buying Shortblock VS Complete Motor
The motor is going into my Firebird so a lot of stuff on it is going to have to be changed on it... Wiring Harness, Accessories, Intake Manifold... I'm also changing the Heads and Cam as I want to run a setup similar to a L76 Engine using L92 Heads and a LS3 or mild cam so I can run 87 Octane and produce 400ish HP.
If I got a complete motor I could expect to spend about $1,250 - $1,500ish depending on miles, condition, ect... It will include all the sensors I will need. I can't use the accessories, heads, cam, or intake however...
If I got a Short block I could spend about $400 + $275 in shipping ($675 total)... ...I can slap on the heads/cam I want to use but then there will be other things I will need like sensors, ignition coils, and other small misc stuff.
I'm trying to figure out if the cost of the short block will offset the cost of the complete engine... Short block costs less in the beginning and doesn't have all the unnecessary hardware the complete engine has, but if the sensors and other stuff go over the price I'm saving, I should just go with a complete engine huh?
Where are you shopping for short blocks?
