Where to buy an engine? I'm posting this for a friend of mine that is purchasing an old RX-7 for $200. He was asking me where he could buy a small black 350ci at and I told him i didnt know and that i would post on here about it. So where is a good place online/ offline to search for a 350? thanx. Brent

I found my LS1 on eBay... got it for what I feel to be a fair price... I picked up the motor, trans, computer, harness, accessories, brackets and belts for $3250... had to drive 14 hours and 890 miles to get it... Its all good though!

My motor sat for ~2 years before I bought it so I decided to rebuild it. $500 in labor plus bearings, rings, new ported oil pump, new timing set, ARP rod and head bolts, and all new gaskets is going to be about $1100 total. I also opted for a cam kit from Thunder Racing, so add another $700 for that. I'll end up with a very fresh, professionally rebuilt 420-450 crank-hp motor that I shouldn't have to worry about for a long time.
With all that said, $3200 for a motor and trans with all accessories and computer/harness seems to be about the going rate. Low mileage motors usually go for more. A local salvage yard here in Detroit wanted $5700 for a 2001 SS Camaro motor with 12k miles. There are usually 2-3 decent setups on eBay at any given time. Just keep an eye out and you can probably pick up something decent.

About a year ago I bought an engine and trans from a seller on Ebay (not a wrecking yard, but an individual). I paid $4,500 for a 2001 and T56 that had 6k miles on it. The paint was not even worn off the pulleys. I ended up changing the cam, 918 springs, TI retainers and porting the oil pump before installing it. While I was inside I inspected some of the internal components and all looked new. I have been happy with it in my 96 Impala SS!

There is always the "you get it" junkyard. Look in the yards near yourself for the improbable deal. A friend of mine found the following deal at a junkyard here in Baltimore:
C5R 7.0l LS1 engine, including heads, custom intake and complete exhause manifold
700R4 transmission with complete carbon fiber driveshaft
He got it on a "manic minute" special. The deal at this place was that anything you could get out in one hour was yours for $200.00. We carried in a load of chains, a box of tools, and two railroad ties for carrying. We got it in 57 minutes.
The bad part? He's currently trying to wedge it into a Ford Focus!!! WTF!!!

Search for your engine. You will get plenty of salvage yard hits. Call and do business directly with them.
I found mine on Ebay as well. The guy specialized in Fbodies. He was within 2 hours of me, so I drove down and got everything and then some. 2001/T56 with 27kmiles for $4500 2 years ago. They have come down a bit.

I got mine on ebay also, I waited untill the auction ended and the minimum never got hit so I called the salvage yard that advertised it and made them an offer and they accepted. Worked for me.
