Pan Gaskets??
Pan Gaskets?? Hi all,
I have been searching and have not found an answer yet. Are the gaskets to the oil pan and transmission pan re-usable? I just pulled my old engine and am getting closer to dropping in the LSX. For oil pan I am using the Champ/Autokraft on a 2004 5.3L and don't know if I should use a new gasket. For the 4L80E I just want to pull the pan, change the fluid and change the filter and don't know if I should get a new gasket or just the filter.

Oil Pan Gasket Me personally I think it is too much work and I hate oil leaks to skimp on the $25-$35 dollars that it costs for a G.M. oil pan gasket to not put a new gasket on and having the peace of mind knowing you did it right the first time, I learned the hard way and skimped a few times on the oil pan gasket but sure enough it eventually caught up to me on one and I had to pull the engine back out to change it and upon re-install I cross threaded a bellhousing bolt and of course it was the last bellhousing bolt to be installed and then I had to pull the engine out again and install a helicoil that I had to go buy the next day so more money and more delays, I told myself never again will I skimp as I said it is too much work not to do it right the first time, I am sure you will get some replys from some members that say they have used their oil pan gasket a dozen times with no problems, to each his own.
