would an ls2 work with a 5 speed from an 87 IROC, I would love a t-56 but can't find one local ( small town in Canada) How strong is this 5 speed? The plan was to use my built th350 for now untill I can afford $3000 plus tremec swap.

Like ^^^ said...Don't waste your time. They aren't even strong enough to hold the stock engine nevermind the LS2.
Can it be done? Yes. Has it been done? Yes. Why? no one really knows!
Where in Canada are you?

Thanks guys, I am in 3 hrs outside Ottawa Ontario.
I priced out the t56 at the stealership... $6032.67.
Local yards don't have any, when they check on the database ain't nothing in Canada.
On the famous auction over 2500 shipped most have no bell housing.

The irocs had 350s and auto trans. Only the 305s came with the T5 5 speed. They're a pretty weak trans.
You have several choices for a new/used trans behind an LS motor.
Check out Richmond 5 & 6 speed, Keisler sells a couple Tremec 5 speeds, there are also old GM 3550s out there, and probably a few others.
