I'm guessing that that is not the 480 version, but it is still an awesome price. Thank you Moses--lead and I will follow. I am actually a couple weeks away from being ready to order, but when I do, I will call Knapp first.

Is that for part number 19244097? I just spoke with someone in their parts department who sail they would sell that for $6,813.

If the $5400 price is for that part number, please let me know who you spoke to!

Thanks,

Jason

if you check out ebay there is a guy on there from time to time selling new ls3 engines for about 4500-4800. I ended up buying a lsx376 crate motor new from a person it was selling it for like $4100.

I got mine from Pace Performance. Other places had lower prices, but the shipping charges were higher, so in the end, Pace ended up being the better deal by a couple of hundred bucks. I also went with the E-Rod LS3. It comes with the ECU and harness with it. With the regular LS3 crate, you'd have to buy the ECU and harness separately. If you have the cash, go with the crate engine.

GM sets the price on the crate engines now. The LS376/480 typically goes for : $7,256.61

What about the LS376/430? Even though the ONLY difference is the cam... I bet it's less than the 480.....

The 430hp engine is less than the 480hp engine.

And the smart money would be to buy the 430hp crate, and install a new set of springs and a more aggressive (but still streetable) cam and end up making more power than the 525hp crate.....for less $$$$ than the 480hp crate.

A cam along the lines of 229*/242* duration on a 114* + 2* would put you in the neighborhood of 500hp to the wheels, be easy to tune and easy to daily drive.

At least, based on my first hand experience!

I agree completely. For myself I would not use as big a cam as you spec above, but would rather put in something much smoother that would still get 480-500HP at the flywheel. But yea, even the cam you spec above would still be a much more tractable cam than either GM grind. GM saved big bucks using ancient grinds to kick up these modern engines!

Comp Cams makes some good stuff in the XE line with contemporary ramp rates/lobe profiles -- a bit of "have your cake and eat it too" with those; more mid range/top end power without totally screwing up the bottom end. I'm old and traction limited. I want a ton of torque off idle with a 650 rpm/20"+ vacuum at idle on an OEM tune. Last thing I want to do is screw that up with a "streetable" cam....LOL. But -- others get to make other choices. Man this is an old thread. Amazing how the "real" price of the crate LS3 has dropped. I paid about $5900 delivered out of a dealership in Iowa I think back in late 2015; there were folks paying more in '10.
