Thanks for all the help. At least Im pointed in the right direction. The flywheel will be here today since it was not a stock item at my local Oreillys. Looks like Im on my up on the build!!! I called Edelbrock, and they told me that a mechanical clutch linkage could not be used with their headers. Maybe I am out to prove them wrong. It would be awesome to retain the mechanical linkage of some sort... Maybe come up with my own design.

Keep in mind, I am running the Muncie 21 for now. This trans is ready to bolt up, and I dont have the cash for a T56 or equiv. This project is already testing Mama!!

The edelbrock shortys definitely look like they'll clear a z bar.
BTW, One reason I use the Sachs clutch is that they make a 26 and 10 spline disk that will work with the pressure plate. You might consider a Richmond 6 speed or Keisler RS500. Unlike the T56, those are a bolt in, donrt require tunnel mods and will work with a manual linkage.

Thumbs up

An RS500 would set you back $1995 for the PerfectFit version. Or $1795 for the 20inch shifter position version.

OK, not really LS related. But while I'm waiting on the offset dowel pins, the material came in for the seats and headliner.
Headliner ready to go in, but a couple clips are broken. Now I'm waiting for clips.

Bellhousing is centered with 0.021 offst pins. 1050 flywheel, 11" 10 spline 1970 BBC clutch bolted up, LS7 pilot bearing seated. I'll check the throwout bearing fork geometry tomorrow. I've got an adjustable stud and a couple different bearings, so I'm hoping something will work and I can test fit the engine/trans tomorrow.

My experience says that pressure plate is likely to be a problem on your LS motor. Those style spring pressure plates have a habit of not wanting to engage at high RPM. So, when you wind it up to 6500 and push the clutch in, it just might stay on the floor.

Aftermarket pressure plates that use that type of spring have counterweights added to remedy the problem. Here is a picture of the Centerforce clutch:

It's a stock 5.3 in a heavy car, with 2.73 rear gears and a Muncie.
If it ever sees over 6000 rpm, it's because I missed a shift .

Ha ha ha ha!!! Been there, done that!

Does your headliner have bows in it? My Impalas do and that has a similar look. Looks nice BTW.

Yep, it's got the bows in it. I have to get to Office Depot to buy about 100 clips to get it in place.

Muncie, 621 bell housing, chevelle fork, 1.25" throwout bearing on an adjustable stud gave perfect fork geometry.

And after tring a couple mounts, I ended up with short/wide poly mounts with 1/4" spacers on SBC chevelle frame mounts.
And I was able to put it in with the trans attached.

I got mine setting in the car with the Muncie attached. Drive shaft fits perfect using the Edelbrock a body plates. Headers fit nice, but do touch the pass side frame. I am working on 3/8" plate shims under the frame mounts, but looks like my steering still contacts the pan on the pass side. Any suggestion? The headers are the Edelbrock long tube step a body headers, and yes they look like they will clear a z bar
