SBC vs. LS1 motor mounts...
SBC vs. LS1 motor mounts... Has anyone measured the difference in spacing between the two? Just wondering the difficulty in making a SBC motor mount work on an LS1.

have a friend looking at a LS1 into a fox body, and i know they make SBC mount K-members for fox bodies.

S&P makes an adaptor that allows SBC engine mounts to bolt to an LS1. Go to page 64 of their online catalog. http://www.hotrodlane.cc/

I got the S&P adaptor for the LS1 engine and when I tried to put the engine in my car,'67 Chevy II with the Heidts front end, that the stock SB motor mounts didn't line up with the frame mounts! This actually worked out well as the engine wanted to be offset anyway......
I made my own plates that look like the S&P ones... $10 in steel and a few hours of my time in the garage. There are a few others around here who have used the same plates.

Yes. As long as your mounts are like mine, it's just a few bolts. You actually bolt a plate to the four holes in the block, then bolt the a regular SBC motor mount to the plate. Here's a not-so-good picture of the S&P mount in GameshowBob's '80 Corvette. http://corvetteforum.net/c3/gameshow...s/swap-044.jpg Mine is the same thing, but it's just a 1/4" thick steel plate. I can send you a drawing of the plate if you like.

So the fact I had to move my frame mounts on the Heidts front end, to what I thought was compansating for the thickness of the S&P adaptor, says there was really something wrong from the Heidts factory with their spacing?

Chris - I dunno. I haven't ordered anything from S&P. The pic was from someone else's car and I just borrowed it from his website. I can probably show some pics of mine this weekend.

The center of the old style mount is 2.20" forward of the Gen III block. Basically the bottom bolt hole in the old style mount lines up with the front bottom hole on the new style mounting holes. Are something like that.
