Truck Fuel Pump question Has anyone been able to open the plastic can around the fuel pump without breaking it? I need to shorten the three chrome rods to shorten the pump overall. I can't seem to find any info on removing the plastic can on the bottom. I have read that its normally replaced as a whole unit.

Depends on the year. I have been able to open a few of the mid 90`s car ones without any issues, they all had tabs and snapped together. I can`t say that I have tried on a newer one though.

The one Im working with is a 2003 GM truck. It has tabs on it, but something is still catching on the bottom of the can. I want to shorten the three chrome rods so it will work with a different fuel tank.
My 02 truck pump came apart with just the tabs. I think there was a rubber grommet on the bottom holding the pump pickup to the plastic housing. Give it a tug and it will come apart.
