Default The New Bump in the Road

Well i finally started to put my LY6 into my 79 malibu in front of a turbo 400 tranny. i'm using Moroso solid motor+mounts, engine and frame side, with their ls adapter plates. I got the motor mount pins through, both sides and came upon a small problem. There seems to be an inch and 5/8 between the tranny and engine.Any direction on how to deal with this problem will be greatly appriciated.

either buy an adapter plate or make a new trans cross member. You can also buy the cross members.

Or you could make your own engine mounts that move the engine back the distance.

Since I'm using a factory crossmember thats been modified for my exhaust to pass through it and I'm running a strange chrome moly driveshaft. I'm really looking to put the ls motor in the same spot the sbc was in and close the gap.

Do you have the firewall clearance to move the engine back that much farther?

You may need to break out a grinder and drill press and make your own adapter plates. Most of those plates are just flat pieces of steel with some drilled and resessed holes. shouldn't be hard to make them longer.

Of course then you need to make sure everything else clears, like headers, accessories and what not.

Aint hot rodding fun?

When using an adjustable mount you would not be moving your crossmember Just simply bolt the mount to the transmission, slide the trans up to the engine and adjust the mount to meet up with the crossmember.

I was wondering what direction would u guys go in setting the motor back. I currently have the moroso plates adapting my sbc mounts to the Ls engine. I see hooker makes plates the place the motor back further and then there are the dirty dingos. any thoughts on what i should use there?
