Only some of the early (1999, 2000 so I am told) engines had a long crank flange. According to the documentation I have, most of those engines had iron heads. GMPP sells a spacer just for this occasion (that works on all Gen III engines) which is detailed in my Thunderbird build topic in my sig. Other people make one as well but that part and it's six accompanying bolts have been in my car without issue for over 15K miles.

If it has the flat flex plate and is the later 2001 motors it will have a spacer already on the crank side of the flex plate. Then just match up the holes or you might have to drill new as the flat flexplate has six bolt holes.
