Default Swapping A-body on C5 vette frame?

I dont know if this falls into the real of the conversion forum but I was wondering if anyone had ever attempet to swap an A-Body onto a C5 Vette frame.

The wheelbase is close, I think it would only take a slight stretch of the C5 chassis.

With C5 vettes selling in the low teens and the cost of trying to make an Abody handle any good this swap almost makes sense... at least to me.

Downsides would be motor tucked into the cowl more than a regular a Body(crazy room for boost), more floor mods needed may resulting is on backseat issues.. That and the purist freaking out because you would be "raping" an A-body and a C5 vette to make the frankenbeats.

If you've got the money and resources, I don't see why not. Hell, I'd bastardize just about any car combo for the sake of fast and weird.

JFMan, I like the last line of your sig... that's why I'm up so late, I just got in from the shop. hahahaha ...and have to work tomorrow.

How about doing this to the front instead? It would give you all the benefits of C5 up front without the fitment issues of running the torque tube and aft mounted transmission. IRS isn't really going to gain you much on the street beyond a marginally smoother ride.

I've been thinking about doing this to one of my 60's cars since the C5 came out.

First off why buy an entire vet in the teens when you can buy a rolling C5 drive train all day long for 1/3 the cost. I would like to do one myself some day just to say I did but FYI there are bolt on goodies that will make an A-body handle as good or near as good as the vet. My A body handles like it is on rails only issue I have is trying to stay in place in my stock flat seats with only a lap belt.

I agree, its not the most cost efficient, but if you got more money than time, knock yourself out......

Rockytopper: you are right for that amount of doe, you can build the drivetrain to handle the same or even better..... Unless you just want to do it just because or because its a vette.....lol

I would imagine the hardest part would be the firewall and suspension mounting points attaching safely..
