Ly5 Thinking of buying a LY5 5.3 for my 39 Chev 2d Sedan project but I'm concerned about the AFM causing trouble later in life. I've got that engine in my '08 Silverado with no problems. Can it be disable with the ECM? Should I stay away from engines with AFM and cam phasers? Any insight appreciated.

I think the earlier AFM motors had lifter problems. But you can just tune it out. If your that worried about just pull the heads and replace the lifters and buy a LS2 valley cover.
As for the VVT it will have a better torque curve vs the non VVT. If your going for max HP and RPM then just delete it as well.

Thanks Bo, I'm not too concerned but I aalso don't know exactly how AFM works and what could go wrong. If GM warranties for 100K miles it should be fine for me. It has plenty of power for a street rod.
