Default ls2 cam choice?

I'm swapping a trailblazer ss ls2 into my 72 chevelle and would like to try and use the stock intake manifold. The motor is stock except for edelbrock ls headers. I'm using a t56 w a 3:73 rear axle. I'm looking for a thumpy cam That will give me good street manners but also a noticeable performance gain over the stocker. I don't want to mess w valve springs etc so something that works w the stock heads. Hows thunder racing? Anyone have any suggestions I'd really appreciate id like to get a good idea before I call a manufacturer and sound like an idiot. Thanks alot kevin.

Stick with the stock cam if you dont want to replace springs. Even with the mild LS6 cam, you'll at the very least need the yellow LS6 springs. Upgrading the springs will be worth the added cost down the line.

Cant have a thumpy cam without needing valvesprings. And normally the rougher the idle(thumpy)..the worse drivablilty gets.

So you need to decide what you really want.

TBSS have 243-799 heads and yellow beehive springs, just tell the manufacturer what you have. SDPP or Texas Speed can help you. Bill

The 07 is a single bolt cam, 06 is a three bolt. You used to have to convert to 3 bolt. Pretty sure its not an issue anymore. The 06 & 07 up use a different ecm, reluctor wheel, and differnt water pump. If you have the front accesories it is easy for me to tell between 06 & other years by the water pump. Are you going to use the front accessories & intake from the TBSS? I just changed mine to a car style intake manifold with mostly truck accesories it was actually fairly easy.

Ya I have the front accessories. I'd like to go to a car style intake such as the ls6. I just don't want to end up spending tons of cash I dont have to mix and match my accessories to make it work. If its a pretty simple install I'd like to sell the tbss intake and use the money towards the ls6.

58 is 07 & up. I have a fast 102 & nick williams 102 so its a little different. You may be able to keep the 07 water pump depending on what side you radiator hose needs to be on. If you need it on the other side an L99 pump will put it on the driver side and will not need to be spaced out.
All I did was-
cut the bracket around the idler-free
move the idler under the alt with a spacer & long bolt-$25?
ls1 water pump $250? I got a GM unit
water pump spacers-$75. that will push an LS1 pump out .75 inches to line up with the truck accesories.
tensioner
Here is what I ended up with. Its really not that difficult.

I talked to thunder racing about which cam would best suit me. They suggested the raptr. This cam is 236/242 615"/615" it is going in a stock ls2 from tbss in my 72 chevelle w t56 and 3:73's. My question to u cam experts is this a "streetable " cam or more of a race cam? How much is this going to affect the driveability of my car? I mentioned i wanted my car the thump but is this overkill? Thanks kevin
