5.3 swap info needed please
i am trying to help out a friend on a swap into his car. he has a 04 5.3 out of a silverado, and just picked up a 92 700r4 trans. i tried to search for info on this but, i find 10 different answers to my questions. i need to know what throttle body can we use for cable, and what else would we need to mate the trans to the motor? thanks for all the info and help in advance.

I'm not sure about the transmission. What you need to check is that the valve's in the trans is the same as the ECU program on the truck. I would guess that they are not the same. You should check with a transmission company, or use the older one with vacuum. We did this once in a 66 impala, and it was some work with the wiring harness and the valve house on the old trans to get it woork...
What you do need is to find a TB from a 01-02 truck or a Camaro. Bolt right on. You need to re wire the wiring harness, and add the Throttle position sensor and the idle valve. You will need to change the Green plastic on the ECU to BLUE and a 00-02 512mb ECU with a matching tune for you're setup.
Ready to roll.

Trans is going to be wired independently of the PCM since only torque converter lockup is electronically controlled in a 700r4. As stated above, you can use a cable throttle body from an earlier truck or camaro/firebird and wire the IAC and TPS correctly. PCM, you can either use a green/blue PCM from a 2004 GTO (drive by cable LS1) or similar express van that had drive by cable. Other option, as stated above, is to change over to a red/blue pcm like a 411. Note that you will also have to purchase a bracket to mount the Throttle Valve (TV) cable for the trans to your throttle body.

I have a 200-4r and used this - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DAK-SEN-01-4160/
This - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70244
And this - http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=225 That looks to be the car version, but the truck one looks like this - https://ls1tech.com/forums/14489341-post86.html
I would think you could do basically the same thing. The vacuum-operated part of this was something I had no interest in keeping. In the interest of full disclosure, waiting on gauges to come in and dash wiring issues have prevented me from getting the car running / trans dialed in (fortunately the parts are now here I just need some free time), but I see no reason to expect problems.
Oh, I just used a dbc throttle body. As for connecting the trans and motor you just need the flexplate/ spacer kit and to elongate the holes for the tc bolts(I just had a machine shop do it).
In hindsight, by the time you build the trans and make all the accommodations for running it with this engine you might as well run a 4l60e and be done with it. I would have but I had just had this trans rebuilt when I decided to swap.

I didnt want to say that originally but I agree completely with Chuckd and GoFast. Go with the 4L60E or 4L80E.

This is what you need for the 700-r4 tv to be dialed in properly.
