Uh oh. Does the timing cover have the cam position sensor in it? Those are older cathedral port heads which could have been put on an ls3.

reason why im asking about oil filters is because i bought a 2008 corvette oil filter and it did not fit unless they gave me wrong product?

do ls1 filters fit all the same for LS motors

i put a "mobil1" m1-107 oil filter on it

You probably got hosed. We now know you have LS1/LS2/LS6 heads, which means you don't have LS3 (style) heads. That also means you didn't get an LS3/L76 intake since they don't interchange. Is it possible you have an LS3 block? Sure, but it's not likely. LS3 block would need a reluctor wheel swap or an LPE conversion module. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you have almost certainly been taken.

do u know of any simple way of checking the block to possibly see what it exactly is

i believe this has a stock ls1 intake on it also not sure...
*****LS3 block would need a reluctor wheel swap or an LPE conversion module***** (is there a way to identify that if that was done?)

any help is very helpful to me!! im just trying to understand what i have so i know in the future what i can do to it..

how ever i dont think i got ripped off i planned on buying it if it was a ls1 but thought even better deal with ls3 motor, i got it for $9000 car is true ws6 6speed, fully loaded, with kooks headers and full y-pipe

So have you already bought the car?
edit - Just saw that you have. When did he say he did the engine swap? Not positive but I thought ls3s came around in 08 or so.

The displacement should be cast into the back of the block. If the trans is off you should see a 6.2 cast there. 5.7L = ls1/6

Look at post #29 for info on block numbers.

Get under the car, follow this checklist and post back..

Are there KNOCK SENSORS on the side of the block near the Oil Pan?

Is there any kind of Wiring going behind the Water Pump?..it will be on the drivers side right beside the Crank Pulley.

Let us know and we can advise from there.

New guy here and I reading this because I am going through a similar situation. Be patient, we all have to start somewhere So far from my research I have determined that mine is a LS6. I got it from a friend that said it came out of a '03 Z06 (with 30k on it) thus making it a LS3...? I havent paid him for it yet because I wanted to look inside it first. The more I looked the more I started questioning the differences between different LS motors. While doing the break down I have noted the heads are numbered 243 and the numbers on the block are 12561168, thus making it an LS6... right? This is my first LS motor, and I need to identify this block so I can to plan this project right (carb conversion into a street rod). I posted some pics to help with identity also.

To the op, even if by some dumb chance the engine turns out to be a LS3 I would be seeking a refund of some sort based off the fact that the heads and intake have been swapped. True LS3 heads and intakes perform better than 243 heads and a stock ls1 or ls6 intake.

You can save yourselves the time of checking casting numbers. I promise you it is NOT an ls3. At best an ps2 which is a 6.0 and uses 243 (ls2 ls6) heads. Or it could be a LS1 with the 243 heads added on.

Putting ps2 style things on an ls3 is going totally backwards. However you can put a ls3 top end on an ls2 engine, but this wont work on ls1 (5.7)
