Dougs, Hooker, Headman, Kooks...will just depend on what motor mounts, oi pan, accesories you are running.

There is a ton of builds and threads that will produce the information you seek. Search chevelle headers and check out the A-body sticky.

Dougs fit the engine well and provide great ground clearance. Plan on fabbing or modifying your trans crossmember to provide clearance.

I ordered these off of ebay. I have not mounted them yet, but the they look to be really good quality. All the welds look really good.

I am going to put then in my 72 Chevelle.

just a note about the hookers... I just finished installing them last weekend and the thing I noticed is not ground clearance but floor clearance. I mounted my engine a bit higher than the hooker mounts probably would to get adequate clearance for the oil pan to tie rod (f-body pan). The passenger side mount is right up on the floor. Instead of lowering the engine I chose to clearance the floor. Anyway, if the engine is back far enough and not too high, these fit the 65 chevelle well. You can see the floor clearance in the pic.

i also fitted them with a 3 bolt flange because I didn't really like the slip fit idea,

the other one shows the stock spark plugs bump into the primary tube...they may work with some trimming or else I will have to find some smaller ones.

I also had trouble with the hookers on our 66. I used their mounts and still had to clearance the floor on the passenger side. I solved the spark plug wire problem by ordering a set from Mast and they fit great.

I used the Doug's headers on my 65 Skylark. There is no way to use them with the Edelbrock adapter mounts which are pretty much the same as the Doug's and the Hooker mounts. The engine needed to be up and back an inch to get them to work and get the steering to clear the oil pan, so I made custom mounts. The clearance problems on my build for the Doug's headers is the passenger floor board and the drivers frame rail. With the custom motor mount frame stands, I was able to locate the engine in the perfect position to make it work, but the engine location has to be just perfect. It is pretty much a game to get the engine high enough to clear the pan while still allowing the headers adequate clearance.

Get BBC headers and weld on LS1 flanges. You can put the collecter where you want it.

The port spacing on a BBC and an LSx engine are nowhere close to being in the same place. NOt to mention the fact that a BBC is much taller, so even if you were to get the port flange to work, the headers would hang way too low when bolted to an LSx engine.

The BBC ports aren't as close as the 351W, but it can work without too much of a problem. I got a cheap set of headers and can align the back cylinders and shorten the spacing for the rest to make it work. The collecter location is about perfect. The main purpose of using header like this is most of the design work is done. It will fit the body style. BTW. I have BBC frame stands and cheap 1"setback plates.
