Default 84 C20 3/4 ton 2WD to LM7 conversion??? Please help!

Alright, i got this truck handed down after a family death and its really got some sentimental value to it. I am curious as to what all would be needed to modernize this a bit to both improve gas mileage as well as power for a fraction of the cost that all kinds of boltons for the 84 motor would cost me.. This truck has been setting in a barn for 20 years and has been driven little and is in CRAZY nice shape IMO.

Heres what im starting with after some extensive polishing, a couple updates *front end/wheels& tires*, and all kinds of routine maintinence. ...

The truck is optioned out with a th350 trans as of now. Is it possible just to add the lm7/harness, and use the th350 with it? Or will that blow this trans apart?

Id like to refrain from turning this into another 10,000 dollar project since that seems to be my trend anymore. lol.. I just want to make this thing a lot more reliable and easier to work on for myself since all of my cars have lsx motors in them anymore. Working on this old **** as absurd as it sounds has be bewildered most times. That and ive got all kinds of lsx stuff i could put to use if i could toss a newer motor in here.

Is there anyplace online that has instructions or step by step how to's on swapping one of these things? I cant seem to find any wiring layouts of this online, and seeing as its all ive got left from my grandfather not to mention its the vehicle i learned to drive 18 years ago, id really like to keep it around for years to come.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Ive searched and searched and never come across more than some old thread on random sites about someone who did it, never any how to do it info though.

A th350 will work fine with a 5.3. Just get a stand alone harness made maybe. Since you wont need to control all the gauges or tranny.

I may just end up making my own harness and installing autoskeeter gauges. These stock ones are beyond turd IMO

Im looking more into this now. The trans i have needs to be rebuilt so i may just spend that money on a th400.

As far as the wiring goes.. With a painless harness/custom harnesses on ebay, does it/do they have leads that i can just put directly to the gauges?

Also if i get a th400 trans, do i get one thats long tail shaft, or short tail shaft?

Will my existing th350 driveshaft work directly onto the th400/5.3 swap?

Thanks for any info!
