Default battery wiring

i'm trying to finish up my ls1 swap into my s10. i know this is pretty simple, but i want to make sure of everything before i hook it up and set it on fire or some **** like that. im using the battery wires that came with my engine. from the positive terminals it has three wires coming out, one goes to the starter, one goes to the distribution block, the other one i'm not so sure about. its black and has a rubber boot on the end of it. i was thinking it went to the alternator. thats how i have it hooked up right now. the thing that confuses me is that i already have a thick blue wire going from the alternator to the distribution block that was built in to my harness. where does this black wire go?

also, the branch of the battery harness that goes to the starter has a ground on it as well. should i ground this to the block or to the frame? which would be better? i believe there is a bolt right next to the starter on the block it can go to but i haven't been under there today to check. any help is appreciated. thanks.

That's how my '01 LS1 was wired...batt positive cable has three ends...one to the starter pole, one to the fuse/relay box pole, and one w/ the rubber boot to the rear of the alt.

My '01 has no blue/black wire from the alt, just the red one mentioned above.

The battery ground should usually go to the engine block. Factory '01 had it bolted to the block, passenger side, just above the starter. I had to relocate mine to one of the unused A/C compressor holes, cable wouldn't reach my battery's neg terminal by just a wee bit. The LS1 has a ground strap on the driver's side near the alt, this goes to the frame rail. I added a ground strap from G110 (rear of drivers side head) to my '82 Camaro ground location on the firewall sheet metal just for consistency.
