Worth doing swap on a 4-dr '57?
Does that make it a poor candidate for what would prob'ly end up converting me into a poor(er) man? I'm thinking of an LS1 and modern trans, but with the original frame. I drove this car sometimes back when I was a teenager, and it would be fun to see it on the road again...

Find a cheap 5.3/4l60e pull out and get to work! You won't be dissapointed in the end! Do you have any pics????
If I do it at all, should I feel committed to mounting the body in a rotisserie and stripping the frame down to metal? Or is that overkill, for what would just become a nice-looking daily/or weekend driver? I'm trying to scope this project, and thinking about how to preserve half our garage for my wife's car.
I've seen some pertty nice 4 door tri-5's.. if the body, frame and all is as you say straight and rust free.. try doing the swap 1st and if you like how it drives and all. then you might consider doing a some restoration or full on !
Get some Pictures. I favor 2 door 210 myself having one way back in the days, had 327, M20 with a straight front axle (gasser days)..!
