Default oil pan?

I'm working on a 2000 ls1 out of a C5 I want to put in a 81 z28
I've got an oil pan off a 2000 5.3 truck engine i wanted to use on the ls1
After removing the C5 oil pan and oil pump pickup tube i wanted to test fit the 5.3 pan and it will not fit flush to the block
I think its hitting the windage trey but i'm not sure
This is my first ls engine rebuild and wanted to ask people who have done this before any info would be helpful Thanx

Each oil pan has it's own particular windage tray, you would need one for a truck pan. That said, you will probably find that the truck pan will hang down past the crossmember more than you will like. A hummer H2 pan or F-body pan would work better.

+1 on the tray.. try removing it for fittement. If you not going to wind the engine up into the higher RPM.. you might just do away with it. as it really only help once it is in the higher RPM range. but IMO, get the right one for the pan.

LS1Nova71 - do you mean H3 / LH8 pan or really the H2 one ??

Might also look at the CTS-V pan..

Thanx for the info i've not tired to install the engine yet will the c5 pan fit without having to notch the crossmember? A friend gave me the truck pan and it looks alot like a gen I oil pan so i was thinking it might work well but if its going to hang to low that may suck

If you use the BRP kit. it should be even or a bit lower than the lower edge of the X-Member. take a look at the BRP site for installation Step / page 3.. you can just see how much it will be below the x-member.

C5 pan has a very long lower sump, it most likely will come into contact with the X-Member. nogo there..!

Don't waste you time or money on the lh8 pan. I used it on my Chevelle and regret it, it hangs way too low. It's one thing I wish I would have sprung for the mast or holley pan.
