Default Motor position

Is there a rule of thumb on the best location for the motor? I test fit my LS2 into the 55 Olds for the first time this morning and it fits no problem.

Should the motor be as far forward as possible to put the weight over the crossmember?

Seems like to make the Fatman tubular motor mounts work, I'll need the motor as far forward as it can go (with about 1/2" clearance around the crossmember).

Here's a pic for fun.....

Thanks for the help!

Joe

Call Tim at Fatman, he can tell exactly what to do according to their setup.

Generally lower and more toward the rear is favorable

I agree with Pocket, slide it back as close to the firewall as practical, as low as possible and still have decent ground clearance. A lower center of gravity is better for handling, braking, etc. With the engine moved back, this leaves more room up front for accessory drives, air intake systems and cooling systems. As an example, I'm having a hard time with clearance between the accessory drive, air intake/filter and the radiator on my '32 Ford 3 window.
