Default LT1 to LS2 swap

I have a 96 LT1 Z28 and I am looking for more power. I am wondering if the LS2 would bolt straight up to the OEM 6 speed trans. I know I would need to find another K-member but what else would I need?

LS2's go for about $4000 with wire harness and ecm in the Detroit area.

Is this piratical? I figure if I just built the LT1 up with heads and a cam it would cost about the same.

If you already have the harness the K member and all that why go through all the trouble???

4k for a top end and a bottom end with new rod bolts and you will be set.

The LS2 wont bolt to the LT1 6 speed without changing a few things. I think it would be cheaper to build the LT1.

Nice car btw

I am considering same but i mite be going 383, but there will be others to reply soon. As for ls2 look into getting ls1 block with different heads like ls6 or sometin mite end up bein some price and i think the manual trannies are the same just maybe minor modifications, do a search on it here. That is what a few ppl are going to end up saying to u!

does having a 383 make our cars more valuable if there built right or would having a ls engine make it worth more?

Theres a lot involved in the swap do some research first, that motor wont work with that trans without changind the input shaft/front plate bellhousing ect.

That kinda money into a lt1 will make a bunch of power.

Why do people who want to make power automatically jump to LSx!?

The LT1 can be made plenty fast for 99.99999% of people.

Most people on this site can't even maximize a combo to get decent times out of their current build let alone make the use of even more power that they "just gotta have."

Sell the LT1 car and buy a GTO if you want an LS2.

Oh and a heads/cam LT1 is faster than an LS2.

How many miles on your setup . If under 85k i think spend the money on the lt1, heads cam , or look for a used procharged setup on here.

very nice car..........id reccomend just staying LT1 and building a motor for it with the money........LS2 swap will be too involved and the LT1 will be faster built correctly.....send me a PM if you like on engine build info.....im actually going to possibly be out in detroit in a few weeks anyway...

Probably becuz the LS family does it more effficiently ultimately has more potential...rids you of the opti....and is just an ALL around better design along with power.

You can work out an LT1 but an LS1 can pump out 500+ with a cam alone.
So why bother?
It is a better engine. hands down.

And if you go LQ4 or LQ9 you dont get away from an iron block. And you save plenty.

OP get what YOU want.

LT1 is an awesome engine. But LS is the pinnacle of modern Chevy design.

Def do not go for the GTO....it has an IRS with wimpy little axleshafts outback.

Beautiful car BTW SALAD SHOOTERS INCLUDED!.....definitely worth doing what your thinking about.

I was just brainstorming because I figured it would be easier on the resell if the car had a newer generation engine compared to a older LT1

An engine swap car is probably never going to be easier to sell, unless it is done extremely well and sold to car car enthusiast. What are your goals for the car? how fast do you want to go? Goals for the car should dictate what you end up doing.
